Airflow loss at one register usually points to a branch-level problem. Weak airflow throughout the home is more likely to involve the filter, return system, blower, indoor equipment or main duct layout.

One room has weak airflow

Check the branch damper, register, flexible duct and connection to the supply trunk. A kinked run or separated collar can reduce airflow to one room while the rest of the system continues operating.

Return-air restrictions can reduce airflow throughout the home

Supply ducts deliver conditioned air to the rooms. The return system carries indoor air back to the furnace or air handler. A restriction on either side can change airflow at the registers.

Restrictive or dirty filter
